LEAD GENERATION

LEAD GENERATION

A lead is a person who has interest in your product or service and has expressed that interest. For the sales part of your business, this can be extremely valuable — instead of cold calling a potential customer whose information you have purchased, you would be reaching out to someone you’ve already opened communication up with. How do you do that? That’s what lead generation is for — attracting and converting potential customers (who are initially strangers) into viable leads. Before you earn customers, you have to generate leads. Here are 5 things you should know about lead generation:

Lead generation is a tool to find ways to attract people to your business in a more organic way.

Lead generation is a way of warming up potential customers to your product or service. And, since these strangers have already expressed an organic interest in your business, they are actually the ones initiating the relationship with your company. Getting these people to actually want to buy your product or service, then, is much more natural. Lead generation happens after you’ve already attracted your audience and are ready to convert them into leads for your sales team.

You will have to identify potential leads.

Leads are generated through the collection of information on potential customers. The information can be collected, for example, by someone providing their contact information to obtain a coupon, or someone filling out a form in order to download a podcast, e-book, etc.

Find cheaper ways to generate leads that are small-business friendly.

For small businesses and startups, the number one concern for lead generation is cost. In theory, lead generation strategies work very well, but some don’t work at all. A couple of cheaper lead generations we can recommend are: providing a free webinar or demo (who doesn’t like getting some valuable for free?) and promote it via social media, purchase some search pay-per-click advertising (PPC), utilize online networking (on sites such as LinkedIn), and also e-mail marketing.

Never underestimate the power of social media marketing.

Social media marketing is free, and if you pay for paid promotions on platforms such as Facebook, it’s quite inexpensive. Post on Facebook for your business, get busy Instagramming photos of your product or service, and tweet out links to various promotions. Visuals are everything and speak louder than words do. Social media marketing can be combined with any lead generation strategy you choose.

Understand that a lead generation strategy doesn’t “fit all.”

Just because one strategy works very well for one business to help generate leads does not mean it will work well for yours. You must put in a consistent effort to produce leads for your business, and that includes experimenting, testing, and tweaking your strategy as you get more information and as you discover what is successful and what isn’t.

Closing:

It can be difficult to come up with more ideas for lead generation sometimes, but if you are willing to stick with the brainstorming process and actually put in the time to generate leads, you will see results.
